Winter Field Day: January 25-26, 2025

posted in: News Articles

If you’re itching to get outdoors to operate, this weekend is a great time to make it happen. Winter Field Day will take place on Saturday and Sunday, January 25 and 26, 2025. Winter Field Day is an annual operating event that is scheduled on the last full weekend in January. It’s an event that encourages amateur radio enthusiasts to put their portable operating skills to good use. Many use it as a tune up for the main event – ARRL Field Day in July.

Yes, it’s really cold out there and the entire EPA Section is blanketed by snow, but that won’t stop the heartiest amateurs from getting out there in the great outdoors. The event will feature operation on HF, VHF and UHF bands on CW, voice and digital modes. Many participants will operate from tents, RVs, and cabins, but you can also get in on the action from the comfort and warmth of your home station.

To get an overview of the event, check out the website: Winter Field Day. You can also review the rules, including the operating classes here: Rules. If you’d like to visit a site, you can use a handy map on the home page. There is also a convenient page on Operating Resources. If you plan to participate in WFD, click here to Register.

If you’re going to operate outdoors for WFD, ensure your safety by dressing warmly in appropriate winter clothing and following Winter operating guidelines to avoid hypothermia. Please use caution walking in snow and on icy, slippery pathways and parking areas. If you’ll be carrying gear, use the buddy system and share the load. As always, have fun but exercise caution and THINK SAFETY!
