Ken, WB3BNY, sent me this question this morning.
“One of our goals at the Snyder EOC is to be able to communicate with PEMA on HF. We have a smaller off-center fed dipole that is resonate in the 40 and 80 meter bands and configured for NVIS, but are not yet satisfied we have the capability we want. What are other EOC’s using for good communications on HF with PEMA? Thanks. 73”
I am no antenna expert, nor am I an expert on anything that I know of, so I am reaching out to all of you. How about replying with the following information about your EOC’s 80m/40m antenna:
1. Type of Antenna
2. Physical Dimensions
3. Feed type (coax/open wire/what ever)
4. Height
5 Structure that the antenna is mounted on.
6. Your own estimate of success with communicating with PEMA Harrisburg. For those of you in Eastern Area with PEMA Eastern Area HQ in Hamburg.
I know, it depends on time of day, conditions on the Sun, and other things that we mere mortals don’t control but if you have a winner let me know. If you don’t, let me know anyway.
Someone has to have a good idea, or know of one that just doesn’t work. If you send me your answers and I’ll put them together and let everyone know.

WT Jones
