On Saturday November 15, 2025 at 1 PM,  the Murgas Amateur Radio Club of Wilkes-Barre PA will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary.  We are named after Father Josef Murgas a Catholic Priest who was one of the pioneers of Radio along with Marconi and others.  In 1905, before Marconi, he built two 200 foot tall wooden towers in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and made the first overland transmission of radio signals.  The Mayors of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre at that time sent the initial messages.

During our celebration in November with the support of Kings College in Wilkes-Barre and the University of Scranton Radio Station W3SUR founded by Professor Nathaniel Frissel (an active member of ARRL) we intend to recreate that overland transmission.  We will, of course, be using modern equipment but it will be a great tribute to Father Murgas who was a remarkable scientist and individual.
