With heavy heart, I announce the passing of Joe D’Andrea, N3JD.
Joseph E. D’Andrea, 79 years of age passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 1, 2016 at Celtic Hospice in Wilkes-Barre, with his devoted wife of fifty-six years, Theresa I. (Calello) by his side. Joe, is also survived by his daughter, Mrs. Judith Fisher and her husband Charles of Doylestown; son, Joseph F. D’Andrea and his longtime companion Karen Rockwell of Lavelle; grandchildren, Theresa, Frank, Joseph, Ashley; great grandson, Arlo Frank.
Born in Hazleton the son of the late Joseph A. and Margaret(Brill) D’Andrea, Joe was also predeceased by two children, Theresa D’Andrea in1980, and Frank E. D’Andrea in 2010.
A lifelong resident of Weatherly, Joe graduated from Weatherly High School in 1954 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Returning home Joe began his quest to become an educator earning his degree at Bloomsburg State College, he continued on to earn his Masters of Education. Having started teaching in South River New Jersey, he quickly accepted a position in the Hazleton School District, where he taught for 37 1/2 years in the High School as a Biology teacher, and served as Athletic Director for 16 years.
A member of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. of Weatherly, Joe was a Lector, and Eucharistic Minister. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Pope Benedict XV #937 Assembly, and Knights of Columbus 3 Degree Council # 12105 of Weatherly member. As a Eucharistic Minister, Joe visited area nursing homes, and shut-in’s to provide them with the sacraments.
Civically, Joe had served the Borough of Weatherly for thirty-two continuous years, including; two terms as Mayor of Weatherly, and was a current council member. He was a past president of the Weatherly Senior Citizens, member of the Eurana Park Association, and American Legion Post #360. Joe served on the Weatherly School Board and lent his abilities to numerous other community oriented organizations and tasks.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a licensed commercial aviator owning his own plane for many years, professional photographer, and was an amateur Ham Radio operator. Joe’s spirit and dedication to his family, church and community will be missed by many.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock A.M. on Tuesday November 8, 2016 from Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. 318 Plane Street Weatherly.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening November7, 2016 at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 P.M., and on Tuesday morning at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. from, 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M.
Interment with Military Honors will be held at Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
