Hello Eastern Pennsylvania! I wanted to talk about my Field Day 2026 experiences and upcoming Hamfests.
It’s been a month since we had Field Day, and I hope everyone had a great time and those who helped run a site have recovered from all the hard work. I was able to visit three sites on Field Day:
- EAAR at Quakertown Airport – really neat to see what the group has done here. They are working with the Civil Air Patrol, hence their stationing at the Airport. They said they have licensed 20+ cadets! They had a neat setup here for Field Day, including a cool trailer they take to other events normally.
- Reading Radio Club at French Creek State Park – they had a cool small set up here, in a wood cabin! I took my 10 year old son and they gave him a demo of a fox hunt. He had to find the fox himself (with some direction of course) – and he really loved it!
- 146.985 User Group in Lionville – this is my home group, and where I have been going for every Field Day since I was licensed. They have a a big set up and do a great job. I also (attempted) to work satellites for them, on top of operating elsewhere too. Even better, Marty Newingham, AG3I, Atlantic Director was able to stop by and check it out – it was my first time meeting him. Also, my son got to operate the GOTA station and make some contacts
Thank you to all who invited me. Everyone was amazingly welcoming and it’s a great thing for the hobby. One thing I noticed is while our hobby does tend to lean older and male, I saw plenty of young people, kids, and women. It always good to expand the members of our hobby – it’s the only way it keeps going.
