After careful consideration and discussion with some of the EPA Staff about the Coronavirus Pandemic, I have decided to recommend that all East Pennsylvania clubs suspend operation until May 1st.
Later in April, I will meet with the entire EPA Staff via video conference to decide what might be necessary at that time.
I will be canceling all my visits for March and April. I am very sorry this move is necessary, but I think we need to error on the side of caution.
Many of our members are in the age bracket that has been named as at serious risk. Even those of us in good health face a threat.
We have never faced as serious a problem as this. Many counties are closing schools, meeting rooms and limiting access to public areas. Many churches are canceling Lenten Services. County EOC’s are going on lockdown with only necessary personnel permitted in the buildings.
You already know the actions President Trump is taking.
I’m asking that clubs gather on repeaters and talk. At this time no communications support has been requested anywhere in East Pennsylvania. Please remain ready. If it becomes necessary, we will activate specific areas through ARES. If you are an ARES member make sure your contact information is up to date.
If any clubs would like to meet at their homes via video link, contact me and I’ll set it up. I can supply a link that you can give to your members and everyone can check in from their home computers.
Use this as an excuse to get on the air. Get that 2M/70CM gear working and talk with each other. Check into one of our nets. Don’t forget we’re busy with traffic handling every evening on our section HF nets.
This situation is temporary. It’s not the End of The World and things will return to normal as soon as possible.
As I jokingly told W.T. (WN3LIF), our Section Emergency Coordinator, I didn’t take this seriously until the NHL canceled hockey.
For now, stay safe, be healthy and follow the CDC guidelines.
