Columbia Montour ARC Supports the 100th Run For the Diamonds in Berwick, PA

Run For The Diamonds…

– The 110th running of the Annual Run for the Diamonds 9 mile race was held in Berwick, PA.  Held since 1908 and has only been canceled in 1918 and 1919. According to the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader there was a field of 1,200 runners for this event. The winner, Colin Leak of Chadds Ford, PA, won it in 46 minutes and 33 seconds. That means he ran an average of a mile ever 5.1 minutes.

The Columbia Montour Amateur Radio Club was there again providing communications support to the Race Committee, announcers, and the runners. The Amateurs, organized by Bob Foster, K3QIA, provide times back to Net Control which is manned by Bill Hoops, K3WJH, and then passed to the Announcers. Standing by is the Berwick Ambulance at the ready in case one of the Amateur Radio Operators notifies Net Control that a runner needs assistance.

The CMARC had only one glitch and that was when the 147.225 repeater suffered a power failure. However, with the permission of WC3H, they switched to the 145.13 repeater in Bloomsburg and carried on.

Another Thanksgiving Day and another Run for Diamonds under the belts of CMARC. Good job to all of the participants!
