Before I wander off to the Luzerne County EOC to play Net Control for the evening I thought I had better get this out to you. Not that it is earth shattering. I have had to field several questions related to “Why isn’t there an entry in my report hours for ‘insert your favorite event here’.” It is nice to know some of our Volunteers are on top of reporting their hours. That is great.
However, those events which are created with “Self Reporting Not Allowed” are apparently causing some confusion. The Volunteer does not see that the event is “Not Self Reporting” as far as I can tell on the Event Calendar. At least I am not seeing it. So lets help the Volunteers out a bit. Please put this at the bottom of your Abbreviated Event Description if “Self Reporting” is NOT ALLOWED:
“This is a Self Reporting Not Allowed Event – Your Time will be reported by the Event Owner.“
It is completely up to you, the Event Owners/ECs/Admins, to decide if the Event is Self Reporting Allowed or Not. If you want to make the event Self Reporting Not Allowed then do it. It is your event after all. Don’t think that this is a prohibition against using the “Not Allowed” reporting. Use it if it fits your county’s method of doing things.
Just add that blurb about it being a “Not Allowed” event. That will save me, you, and the ARES Connect Team at the ARRL the time of researching why the volunteer doesn’t see a place to report his/her hours for the event.
If it is a recurring event then edit the Master’s abbreviated description for the event and just save the event. The Instances will automatically be updated.
That brings up one last topic. Questions, problems, etc., are to be handled by the County EC or County AC Admin. If they cannot resolve the issue then they should pass the question/problem to me for resolution. ECs and Volunteers should not be sending questions to the ARESCONNECT email address at the ARRL HQ. If the problem cannot be resolved at the Section level then the Section Staff will take it to the ARRL.
Thanks all. Have a good rest of the week!
